Nikos Simiriotis
He was born in 1911 in Smyrni and died on 17 March 1996 in Athens. He studied to be Civil Engineer and worked in Greece. He was nephew of Angelos and Yeorgios Simiriotakis and together with his professional career he went in for painting , sculpture, music and poetry. He translated Lorca, Poe and published several poetry collections. Among them are the collection “Stars” (1971) given award by the Academy of Athens and the rhapsody “Earth” (1943), consisting of 15 odes. The last one was an effort to present in verse the course of our planet so far and predict its ending, more precisely , its imminent destruction, in a future moment based on scientific data. The company “Of the Anonymous” took on the telecine of the collection for the Simiriotis family. So far, material of 3-hour duration has been transferred on tapes mini DV and VHS. Nikos Simiriotis’ films, travel and fiction, are super 8mm, in colour. Most of them have sound which has been added a posteriori with narrative-descriptive function.
